Purperreiger

The Purple Heron is a lightweight & graceful wading bird, top notch member of the Ardeidae family. Although it bears many similarities to its more famous and more common counterpart, the Grey Heron, it is remarkably more slender and beats its famous brother by a mile in elegance. The Purple Heron has a dark reddish-brown plumage, and bold black streaks and lines running down its neck. As spotted in full-flight, the extreme longitude of its toes is eyecatching. This specimen is very well preserved and is a great shadow-thrower in any room!
